Consumer Packaged Goods
What is this template and why does it matter?
It shows shoppers a new product concept — flavor, formulation, or packaging — and measures appeal and purchase intent before it's produced. It matters because reversing a CPG production run is far more expensive than reversing a survey question.
What questions should I ask?
Overall appeal, purchase intent, uniqueness versus competing products, price expectations, and fit with the existing product line.
How many questions should it have?
6–10 per concept tested.
When / how often should you send it?
Early in development, before committing to sourcing or production.
What does a strong result look like?
A clear top concept validated in a realistic shelf context, not just a rating on a written description. Corvane Predict and Orchestra test the actual visual mockup in a simulated shelf, which is a stronger signal than concept text alone.
Use these questions as a starting point for your research.
Q
How appealing is this new product concept to you? (1–5)
Q
How likely would you be to buy this if it were on shelf today?
Q
How is this different from what's already available?
Q
What would you expect to pay for this?
Q
How well does this fit with the rest of the [Brand] product line?
